Data from Target Corp.'s Shipt provides insights into the expectations web shoppers have in mind for holiday shipping.

When it comes to holiday shipping this season, web shoppers want it done right — the first time and every time.

Quality of shipping service and reliability of delivery are important for customers who shop online (61%). And 74% of shoppers say that quality of shipping service and reliability of delivery, respectively, impacted where they shopped online, according to a survey of 3,000 consumers by Shipt, a delivery service owned by Target Corp.

“We hear from our customers and retail partners that the perfect combination of speed, reliability, and value is really what matters, especially during the holiday season,” says Shipt chief operating officer Raj Kapoor.

Target is No. 5 in the Top 1000. The database is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of North America’s online retailers by web sales.

Here are a couple key takeaways on the expectations web shoppers have in mind for holiday shipping.

#1 Holiday shipping expectations: on time, every time

  • Trustworthy delivery is a top priority. Quality of shipping service and reliability of delivery are important for customers who shop online. 61% and 74% of web shoppers said that quality of shipping service and reliability of delivery, respectively, impacted where they shopped online.
  • On time is critical. Consumers want their gifts to reach their destination on time with 86% saying this was important to them.
  • Consumers rely on delivery. 28% of consumers will have most or all their gifts delivered to recipients using shipping and delivery services.

#2 Diversity and shipping options matter

  • Travelers lighten their luggage. If traveling for the holidays, 40% would have their online purchases delivered to their destination.
  • Delivery option in demand. Customers want the ability to have gifts delivered, with 73% of respondents saying it was important for brick-and-mortar stores to offer delivery.
