Home improvement retail giant Lowe’s Cos. Inc. just named Amazon.com Inc. veteran Vikram Singh as its first-ever chief digital officer.

Singh will start Jan. 4. He joins Lowe’s, No. 25 in the Internet Retailer 2017 Top 500, from Amazon (No. 1), where he spent the past four years as a general manager. Singh’s e-commerce experience also includes management-level roles at eBay Inc. and PayPal Inc., among other firms.

At Lowe’s, he will oversee the retailer’s digital and omnichannel strategy, ensuring the retailer’s online and mobile storefronts are working in concert with its store locations.

“Digital is the fabric of a fully integrated customer experience, from project inspiration to customer relationship management to how we present products and services and create engaging content,” said chief customer officer Michael McDermott. “We’re excited to have Vikram at the helm leading the next stage of our digital journey.”

Singh joins Lowe’s as the retailer’s online sales continue to grow. Chief operating officer Rick Damron told analysts on Lowe’s Q3 2017 earnings call last month that online sales were up 33% year over year during the quarter. Damron also said that 60% of Lowe’s online orders are picked up in a store, and 40% of online shoppers that pick up an order in-store wind up buying something else while there.
