Destination XL names Sahal Laher, most recently of Brooks Brothers, to the newly created post.

Destination XL Group Inc., a retailer of men’s big and tall apparel, has hired a chief digital officer who also will serve as chief information officer.

Sahal Laher on Monday was named senior vice president and chief digital and information officer of DXL, No. 280 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, with an Internet Retailer-estimated $87.9 million in online sales in 2015, according to Top500Guide.com data. The chief digital officer role is a new position and Laher will report to CEO David Levin. Laher, who also will join the retailer’s executive committee, will be tasked with leading DXL’s digital commerce strategies, the retailer says.

Laher comes to DXL after more than three years at men’s apparel retailer Brooks Brothers (No. 157 in the Top 500), where he was executive vice president of digital innovation and technology and global chief information officer. Prior to that role, he was global CIO at Stride Rite Corp. He also held senior strategic consulting positions at Deloitte Consulting, Andersen Consulting and Data General Corp.

We have built robust omnichannel capabilities, and it is now time to leverage our seamless shopping environment with digital expertise anchored on customer interaction, online experience and personalization to further build DXL’s brand awareness,” Levin said Monday in announcing Laher’s hiring. “With his track record of leading high profile brands, Sahal is poised to enhance engagement with our core shopper across all channels of distribution.”

“Digital provides a platform to facilitate interactions and transactions with our customers in an efficient, simple and superior way,” Laher said in a statement.
