Sebastian Klauke has spent much of his career with management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group.

European e-retailer Otto Group has hired its first chief digital officer.

Sebastian Klauke will officially join the e-commerce giant, No. 2 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Europe 500, on July 1. Klauke has spent much of his career with management consulting firm Boston Consulting Group, most recently as managing director of the company’s BCG Digital Ventures subsidiary. He also launched an online used-car store.

Otto Group executive board member Rainer Hillebrand said it’s that diverse range of experience that led Otto Group to hire Klauke.

“Alongside his technological expertise and enthusiasm, his experience as a bridge-builder between startups and large company cultures left us in no doubt that we have found the right person for this key role within the future strategic direction of the Otto Group,” he said.

Otto Group, based in Germany, owns Crate and Barrel (No. 71 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide) as well as its flagship site Otto.de, lingerie and swimwear brand Lascana and fashion retailer Bon Prix, among other online retailers.
