Amazon shared its latest annual record for Prime fast shipping as it closes the books on 2025. By the end of the year, Prime deliveries for same- and next-day orders exceeded 13 billion globally, according to the company.
That achievement marked a 44% increased from the number of items Prime delivered with same- and next-day service in 2024, with online grocery sales playing an important role. The results marked the third year in a row that Amazon has announced such a record for its fast delivery services, which it uses to drive signups to its Prime membership program.
Amazon ranks No. 1 in Digital Commerce 360’s Top 2000 Database. The database is how Digital Commerce 360 tracks the largest North American online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales.
Amazon is also No. 3 in Digital Commerce 360’s Global Online Marketplaces Database. That database ranks the 100 largest such marketplaces by third-party gross merchandise value (GMV).
Amazon reports third year of record same- and next-day Prime deliveries
What’s behind Amazon’s latest delivery record
Amazon said that in the U.S., the number of items it delivered the same and next day increased by more than 30% to 8 billion during 2025. Of that total, more than 4 billion items were groceries and everyday essentials, Amazon reported.
The record comes as Amazon adjusts its grocery strategy in the U.S. In January, the company announced it would close Amazon Fresh stores as it replaces some with Whole Foods locations and refocuses on its grocery delivery capabilities.
Amazon sees its grocery and delivery services as a key component of its Prime membership program. Currently, it is working to improve services beyond major urban areas to reach more customers.
“One of the big reasons customers join Prime is to save time and money, and our record-breaking delivery speeds are helping members save more of both,” said Doug Herrington, CEO at Worldwide Amazon Stores, in a released statement. “By expanding our fast, free delivery options to rural communities and adding fresh groceries and prescription medications to our offering, we’re proving that members don’t have to choose between speed, selection, and savings — Prime membership delivers all three.”
Amazon is scheduled to report earnings results for the fourth quarter of its 2025 fiscal year on Feb. 5.
Delivery’s role in Prime membership
Prime members in the U.S. each saved an average of $550 using Amazon’s fast delivery options in 2025, the company said. Amazon claims that “tens of millions” of items it sells qualify for free same-day or next-day delivery through Prime.
In addition, Amazon cited $105 billion in savings globally for its Prime customers who used fast delivery options in 2025, with U.S. members making 64 fewer trips to stores than they would have made otherwise.
