Pickup options like BOPIS and curbside pickup are both popular with customers and good for online retailers' conversion rates.

Americans like to pick up their online orders, whether that’s buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) or curbside pickup.

And retail chains are happy to oblige. Among the 201 retail chains ranked among the Top 1000, 72.1% offered BOPIS as of early 2022 and 52.5% offered curbside pickup/drive-up services of orders purchased online.

BOPIS and curbside pickup adoption grew thanks to the pandemic

That’s a huge difference compared with pre-pandemic times, when only 8.9% of Top 1000 retail chains offered curbside pickup of online orders. Understandably, those options are rarer among other kinds of retailers. But they aren’t unheard of, either.

The Top 1000 is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking database of the largest North American online retailers.
