Worldpay joins a list of other technology venders Kroger is adding in 2025 to strengthen digital and omnichannel operations.

Worldpay announced that grocery giant Kroger reached an agreement to use the vendor for payment processing across its ecommerce site, app and physical stores.

The move puts Worldpay’s payment process optimization solutions at the center of Kroger’s digital sales and traditional operations. Total sales growth was flat year over year in Kroger’s most recent quarter. However, ecommerce sales increased 16% over the same period.

Kroger ranks No. 6 in Digital Commerce 360’s Top 2000 Database. The database ranks North America’s largest online retailers by their annual ecommerce sales. Digital Commerce 360 projects that Kroger’s total online sales in 2025 will reach $19.98 billion.

How Kroger will use Worldpay for payments

“We are pleased to be selected by Kroger to provide our full suite of innovative payment solutions,” said Jason Pavona, general manager, North America, at Worldpay. “As payments methods continue to evolve, we look forward to helping keep Kroger at the leading edge of commerce innovation.”

The exclusive agreement will bring Worldpay’s service to Kroger’s transactions for 11 million customers. Worldpay already processes more than 50 billion transactions across 174 countries and 135 currencies, according to a press release from the technology vendor.

“Time and time again, industry leaders like Kroger continue to choose Worldpay as their preferred payments provider because of our collaborative approach and deep expertise in optimizing the payments experience,” Pavona stated.

Kroger’s evolving list of technology providers

Digital sales, grocery delivery and use of artificial intelligence have all been priorities for Kroger in its technology investments in 2025.

Most recently, the grocery chain announced that it would bring Kroger stores to DoorDash‘s delivery platform. That move widened its scope of fulfillment options. The company had already committed billions of dollars to robotic ecommerce fulfillment centers that are part of an ongoing relationship with the U.K.-based Ocado Group.

Ocado’s warehouse solutions, marketplace analytics from Mirakl and retail media investments within Kroger’s 84.51° division are just a few of the areas representative of how Kroger is using AI across its operations.

Looking ahead, Ronald Sargent, chairman of the board and interim CEO at Kroger, told investors on Sept. 11 that technology would play a big role in speeding up delivery capabilities. However, “most customers are very pleased and very happy with two-hour delivery,” he said at the time. Specifically, he noted that AI is already being used “to pick multiple orders at the same time,” while electronic shelf tags are being rolled out across Kroger stores.
