Alfred Chang, the incoming CEO at Everlane, will bring more than two decades of experience to the retailer.

Everlane will fill its CEO role, which has been open since January, bringing on Alfred Chang, a former chief executive officer at Fear of God.

Chang arrives following a search that commenced at the beginning of 2024 when Andrea O’Donnell departed to become brands president and executive vice president at the footwear retailer Designer Brands.

Chang will start on Oct. 7, an Everlane spokesperson confirmed for Digital Commerce 360, sharing details about the company’s new top executive.

Everlane ranks No. 261 in the Top 1000 Database, Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest North American online retailers. There, Digital Commerce 360 categorizes Everlane as an Apparel & Accessories retailer.

Everlane’s new CEO, Alfred Chang

Chang will take on CEO duties at Everlane with well over two decades of retail experience. His most recent position as CEO at apparel brand Fear of God followed 17 years at PacSun. PacSun is ranked No. 232 in the Top 1000 and — like Everlane — appears in the Apparel & Accessories category.

“Under his leadership [at Fear of God], he streamlined operations processes, implemented merchandising initiatives, led collaborations and partnerships, and curated digital and brand marketing strategies,” the Everlane spokesperson said. “Alfred elevated Fear of God’s product lines by overseeing the strategic development and refinement of men’s, women’s, and kids’ collections, driving substantial growth and market share.”

Now, Everlane will look to Chang to “lead the brand through its next phase of business,” said the spokesperson.

Chang’s time at PacSun included multiple roles, eventually leading to time as president and then co-CEO. He previously served there as chief brand officer, as well as executive vice president of merchandising and design.

Role of Everlane’s founder

Michael Preysman, who founded Everlane, expects to work with Chang in a continuing capacity for the company, which sells its clothing both online and in its own physical stores.

“Michael Preysman will maintain his role as Executive Chairman and Climate Lead, focusing on championing the brand’s environmental agenda across innovation, engagement and give-back while continuing to support the business as needed,” the Everlane spokesperson explained.

The entrepreneur transitioned to his executive chairman role in 2022 after giving up the CEO title, which he held for more than a decade after Everlane launched. In 2024, Preysman debuted his new direct-to-consumer sports beverage company Magna, which is targeting young, Gen Z consumers.
