Chad Ghosn joins the online furniture retailer from Expedia.

Fast-growing Wayfair LLC has a new head of security to oversee the online-only retailer’s data centers, data storage and phone systems.

The online furniture retailer, No. 24 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, has hired Chad Ghosn to be its first vice president of information technology infrastructure and security. The move marks a return to retail for Ghosn, who spent more than a decade at computer giant Dell Inc. (No. 3), most recently serving as director of information technology. He left Dell in 2012 and has spent the past two years at travel site Expedia Inc., where he was senior director of infrastructure.

“Chad’s background developing modern infrastructure systems for e-commerce and technology organizations will be a significant asset as we continually innovate our platforms to deliver an unparalleled online shopping experience for our customers,” Wayfair chief technology officer Jeremy Delinsky says.

Wayfair generated $2.04 billion in 2015 web sales, according to Top500Guide.com data, and handles much if its technology in-house, from its e-commerce platform to content management to order management.

Wayfair is a finalist for three awards at this year’s 2016 Internet Retailer Excellence Awards, including Internet Retailer of the Year, E-Retail Marketer of the Year, and the E-Retailer Growth Award. The second annual Internet Retailer Excellence Awards will be announced during a June 8 ceremony at the annual Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition at the Hyatt Regency McCormick Place in Chicago.
