Scott Williams has worked at Fanatics, Wal-Mart and OfficeMax.

Outdoor gear retailer Cabela’s Inc. has hired Scott Williams as executive vice president and chief marketing and e-commerce director.

In June, Cabela’s, No. 40 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide, said its existing chief marketing officer Patrick Snyder would move into a new job as special advisor to CEO Tommy Millner before retiring in 2013.

Since 2010, Williams has served as president of sports merchandise retailer Fanatics Inc., which operates 250 e-commerce sites, including FootballFanatics.com, No. 98 in the Top 500 Guide.

From 2006 to 2010, Williams was corporate vice president of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., No. 6 in the Top 500 Guide. There, he oversaw profitability, merchandising, margins and call center, distribution and returns operations for SamsClub.com, the e-commerce arm of Wal-Mart’s warehouse chain.

Prior to 2006, Williams held several positions at OfficeMax Inc. including senior vice president of marketing. OfficeMax is No. 9 in the Top 500 Guide.

“Having previously run the SamsClub.com business unit of Wal-Mart and OfficeMax’s direct business segment, Scott brings a great deal of e-commerce experience to Cabela’s,” says Millner. “I look forward to his valuable contributions to our marketing and e-commerce operations and am excited about leveraging his e-commerce expertise.”
