By improving the analytics within its platform, CareDox expects to provide school nurses with a deeper understanding of a child’s health.

CareDox plans to use $16 million in new funding to add new analytics capabilities to its digital healthcare platform for K-12 schools that will improve treatment outcomes, expand its vaccines program to several states including Virginia, Missouri and Indiana, and expand its technology and data science personnel.

By improving the analytics within its platform, CareDox expects to provide school nurses with a deeper understanding of a child’s health, which in turn will enable nurses to administer the best possible treatment.

CareDox is used by more than 4,000 schools serving more than 2 million children.

A school nurse consulting the medical records of a child with asthma through the CareDox platform, for example, will be able to assess the severity of the condition based on the data within those records, then use that knowledge to select the appropriate treatment, says CareDox CEO Hesky Kutscher.

CareDox’s platform captures student medical charts, medications and immunization records. School districts using CareDox’s platform also makes it possible for parents to fill out their child’s health registration forms online.

In addition, parents are automatically notified when their child visits the school nurse or when their medication is running low. Parents can digitally share updates on their child’s health with school health program through the platform. CareDox is used by more than 4,000 schools serving more than 2 million children, the company says.

“K through 12 schools manage healthcare for more than 50 million kids,” Kutscher says.

CareDox’s aim is improving pediatric health through technology that better serves and connects students, parents, providers and payers, Kutscher says.

In addition to its digital healthcare platform, CareDox’s Healthy Schools program provides in-school care to students. CareDox, which manages the entire service, contracts with pediatricians that serve as medical directors in all 36 states served by the company, and nurses in Florida and Texas.

The company plans to eventually contract with nurses in all markets it serves. CareDox declined to reveal the total number of physicians and nurses under contract.

CareDox recently partnered with Healthy Schools LLC, a Jacksonville-based public-private partnership that promotes pediatric health by administering influenza vaccines at partnered schools. HealthySchools uses CareDox’s platform to manage the digital workflow for its vaccine and care visit program for underserved children.

The latest round of funding brings the total capital raised by CareDox, which launched in 2014, to $30 million. AI Life Sciences Investments LLC and 7wire Ventures led the funding round, with additional investments from Digitalis, Prolog Ventures, StartUp Health, and Wanxiang Healthcare Investments.
