Made-In-China.com USA, a marketplace that lets U.S. companies order through a California distribution center products from China-based manufacturers, is upgrading its operations in the U.S., client services manager Floria Xie says.

Since the company’s April 2013 launch in the United States, Xie estimates the gross merchandise value processed through Made-In-China.com has reached $42 billion. There are more than 1 million active business buyers registered on the site, Xie says. To support growth, Made-In-China recently opened a 200,000-square-foot warehouse and U.S. headquarters facility just east of Los Angeles in Ontario, Calif.

Unlike Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba.com, which features supplies from the United States and other countries in addition to China, Made-In-China USA allows only Chinese suppliers to feature their products on the site, Xie says. The marketplace sorts products into 27 categories, including Industrial Suppliers. Consumer Goods, Raw Materials and Services. Visitors can also view popular search terms listed for products, including “CNC Router,” “Steel Pipe,” and “China LED.” A CNC, or computer numeric code, router is a tool programmed by a computer.

For buyers, Made-In-China offers an iCredit loan program that allows small and medium-sized businesses to borrow up to $750,000 for 90 days. The e-marketplace also provides buyers such services as logistics, customs clearance, tax refund, goods inspection programs, product and supplier recommendations. It also provides Secure Trading Services, an escrow payment service that holds and disburses payment to suppliers once buyers confirm the transaction is complete.

For suppliers, Made-In-China offers a service that lets them register their U.S. operations as a U.S. business, hire local sales and marketing personnel and store product samples and inventory at the newly opened California warehouse, Xie says. Buyers and suppliers can communicate through TradeMessenger, instant messaging software that they can download from Made-In-China.com.

Made-In-China works with several services providers to certify the quality of suppliers’ operations and products: SGS S.A., an inspection, verification, testing and certification company based in Switzerland; TUV Rheinland Group, a business verification service firm based in Germany; and Bureau Veritas S.A., a French company that offers testing, inspection and certification services. These firms develop Business Information Reports for every registered supplier that buyers can download from Made-In-China.com; the reports contain public records on suppliers’ operations and such information as business history, operations and corporate structure. These firms also work to verify that registered buyers are indeed businesses on Made-In-China.com.

The marketplace sets membership fees for suppliers individually based on the type of services requested and industry of operation. Xie says the average supplier fee is priced at $5,000 yearly.

Buyers can choose from three yearly membership subscription options: a basic plan that lets buyers manually search for and contact suppliers up to 50 suppliers per day for no charge; a Global plan, with an annual fee of $199.99, that lets buyers contact up to 100 suppliers daily through the portal’s automated buyer-supplier matching service; and a Pro plan, with an annual fee of $399.99, that lets buyers contact up to 200 suppliers daily through the matching service.

Made-In-China.com USA is a subsidiary of Focus Technology Co., Ltd., an e-business company founded in 1996 and headquartered in Nanjing, China. Focus Technology also connects some 5 million buyers  more than 200 other countries with about 3 million China-based suppliers through e-commerce. Made-In-China.com is separate from Hong Kong-based MadeInChina.com, which sells general merchandise in more than 20 currencies in bulk orders to business as well as smaller orders to consumers.
