When the hot-selling iPhone 6 hit the retail market a year ago, mobile phone accessories manufacturer mophie Inc. had the data management system in place to ensure it delivered the right iPhone 6 cases and chargers to the right stores, says Charles Mercadal, mophie’s manager of technical support.

“The iPhone 6 sold aggressively right out of the gate,” he recalls. “For us it was a matter of getting orders right for our customers, so we needed to have complete data.” That meant quickly getting order data from its retailer customers regardless of the purchasing channel—through mophie’s e-commerce site, through sales reps using Salesforce.com, or through electronic data interchange—and instantly entering into its order management and warehouse management systems.

Mophie handles its data management across its multiple sales channels and business software applications through Jitterbit Inc.’s Harmony Live Internet-based data integration software. Mophie, which was a beta tester of Harmony Live before moving out of test mode in July, also uses it to distribute and collect data among third-party logistics providers that help manage shipments; carriers including FedEx Corp., UPS and the United States Postal Service; and databases on product warranties, shipments of product samples, and records of returned products.

One particular area where mophie has been able to generate improved performance is in handling requests for warranty information, a process that in the past could have taken hours if not days to find and retrieve the proper documents to authorize a warranty-covered product return.

“We turned our warranty process around significantly,” Mercadal says. “Customer service reps can now get a customer a return label authorization to customers in five to 10 seconds,” he says. A rep can click a button within a Salesforce.com customer relationship management application to have it quickly e-mail a return merchandise authorization label.

The cost to run Jitterbit’s software ranges from $2,000 to $6,000 per month, depending on such criteria as the number of connected software applications and the number of users.
