Shoppers can elect to get their orders at the store most convenient to them, regardless of which brand site they placed the order with.

Sears Holdings Corp. is making its buy online, pick up in store options more flexible. Consumers who place orders on Sears.com or Kmart.com can now elect to pick up their orders at the Sears or Kmart store most convenient to them, even if it is not the store brand they placed their order with.

For example, an order placed on Sears.com can be picked up at a local Kmart store and vice versa. Imran Jooma, executive vice president of Sears Holdings says the move is meant to help consumers “shop on their own terms.”

“Leveraging the breadth of both Sears and Kmart’s online and in-store networks means more convenience for members and opens an even wider brand-name product selection available to fans of both stores,” Jooma says.

All Sears and Kmart stores nationwide are eligible. As of Feb. 1, Sears Holdings Corp. operated 1,135 Kmart discount and superstores in the United States, 768 full-line Sears mall stores and 60 Sears specialty stores, such as Sears Essentials and Sears Auto Centers.

Consumers select which store they want to pick up their web order at during the ordering process and receive a confirmation e-mail when the order is available for pickup. Customers who elect to pick up their web orders in a store don’t pay for shipping. When customers arrive at the store, they can retrieve their orders from a merchandise pickup location or have a store employee bring the order to their vehicle.
