Matt Marcus also worked on ad campaigns for Grey Goose, MillerCoors and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Gemvara.com has a new chief marketing officer.

The web-only customized jewelry seller, No. 503 in Internet Retailer’s 2013 Second 500 Guide, has hired Matt Marcus for the executive position. He comes from Chicago-based digital advertising and marketing agency R/GA, where he had worked since August 2010 and was vice president, executive creative director. His clients included the Grey Goose vodka brand and brewing joint venture MillerCoors LLC, along with youth apparel chain Abercrombie & Fitch Co., No. 47 in the Internet Retailer 2013 Top 500 Guide, Gemvara says.

Between 2008 and 2010 he worked as co-founder of mobile app company Knowtary Public Inc.—among its products was restaurant reservations app—and as worldwide director of e-business for Italy-based luxury fashion brand Gucci, according to his LinkedIn profile.

“Matt is a highly skilled and creative marketer and I am thrilled to add him to our executive team,” says Gemvara CEO Janet Holian. “His experience leading major consumer brand campaigns combined with his digital capabilities is extremely unique and very relevant to Gemvara. It has been a pleasure working with him thus far and I know his expertise will bring our brand to the next level.”

The hiring of Marcus follows the appointment late last year of Holian as Gemvara’s permanent CEO.
