Like Amazon Prime, the service offers two-day shipping for $79 annually.

Sears Holdings Corp. today said it would offer  free, two-day shipping for $79 per year—the same price as competing shipping services offered by Amazon.com Inc. and ShopRunner, a service that includes more than 60 retailers.

Members of the chain’s Shop Your Way loyalty program buy what’s called a Shop Your Way Max membership to receive the shipping. The shipping also applies to items purchased from Kmart and the Sears Marketplace, a sales forum hosted by Sears. For 99 cents extra per order, program members can receive faster shipping. Consumers can try out a membership for 90 days for free.

“Sears and Kmart are committed to helping members and customers better manage their lives and budgets, especially during the busy holiday season,” says Imran Jooma, senior vice president and president, online, marketing, pricing and financial services.  “We offer a fully-integrated shopping experience that seamlessly blends online, mobile and in-store shopping, with a rewards program that delivers even more benefits.”

The chain also said today that it offers free shipping on orders of $49 or more for orders made via Sears.com, Kmart.com and MyGofer.com, where consumers can buy food, grocery, beauty, health and other items.

Last month, Sears said that consumers who shop online or in the company’s Sears or Kmart stores can put products on layaway and make their payments either online or in store. Those consumers can also have their layaway items shipped to their homes for a fee.

Sears is No. 8 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. Amazon, No. 1, promotes its free-shipping program, Amazon Prime, in part by offering free access to streamed films and TV shows to members. In late summer, ShopRunner announced new retailer additions that include Brooks Brothers Group Inc., No. 156, and Claire’s Stores Inc.
