Members of its Prime free shipping program gain access to more titles.

Amazon.com Inc. today says it has boosted the number of streamed TV shows and movies available to members of its Prime free shipping program.

The agreement with Epix—a joint venture that involves Viacom Inc. and its Paramount Pictures unit, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. and Lionsgate—adds “thousands of new releases, classic library titles and original programs to Prime Instant Video,” says Amazon, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.

Consumers who pay Prime’s $79 annual fee receive two-day shipping on purchases along with access to the streamed content. Prime Instant Video offers some 25,000 titles, Amazon says. The e-retailer’s Amazon Instant Video, from which consumers can rent or buy, includes about 120,000 titles.

“We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars to expand the Prime Instant Video library for our customers,” says Bill Carr, vice president of video and music at Amazon. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers such popular Epix titles, many of which were just recently in theaters.”

Epix titles include “The Avengers,” “Iron Man 2,” “The Hunger Games,” and “True Grit.” To watch the content, consumers use such devices as Amazon Kindle, and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.
