The 142-store Pathmark Stores supermarket chain has introduced online shopping with a twist--Pathmark will not deliver the orders. Customers must pick them up in stores and pay at the time of pick-up. Pathmark charges $10 to assemble the order.

Pathmark Stores, a 142-store supermarket chain in New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia, has introduced online shopping at Pathmark.com–with a twist. Pathmark will not deliver the orders. Customers must pick them up in stores and pay at the time of pick-up. Pathmark charges $10 to assemble the order.

The online shopping is part of Pathmark’s new brand initiative. Our focus is on being respectful of people’s time, which is very limited, a spokesman says. This is one way for people who are time constrained to save time they would otherwise be spending in the store.

Initially, Pathmark is offering online shopping at two stores in Middletown and Edgewater, NJ, and soon will offer it at a third store in Lawnside, NJ. Customers will be able to place orders at any time, and can pick up orders between 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

There will be no home deliveries but customers can contact the store to have their groceries brought to their cars in the parking lot, the spokesperson says. Shoppers pay at the time of pick-up, using cash, checks, and debit and credit cards.

All items in the store will be available online, except for prescription drugs. Pathmark will accept manufacturer coupons and Pathmark Advantage Club loyalty offerings for online shopping.

Customers will be able to shop by using drop down menus that break down by category, sub-category, brand and price, the spokesperson says.
