Do It Best Corp. is adding a new category to its ecommerce product lineup: Lumber.
The retailer is a member-owned hardware, lumber and building materials cooperative based in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
“Our data showed that lumber was among the top searches on our site, indicating a clear market demand,” said Brianna Wells, divisional manager of ecommerce, marketing, and merchandising. “Many of our members sell lumber, and we saw an opportunity to boost their sales by catering to consumers who prefer to pre-buy online before visiting the store.”
Do It Best now carries 1,500 lumber items online.
Do It Best is No. 407 in the Top 1000. The database is Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest North American online retailers.

“It’s not just about convenience anymore,” Wells explained. “It’s about necessity. If customers cannot find what they need online, they’ll seek out retailers who provide that information.”
The ecommerce product expansion for lumber is part of a bigger push for more sales in the lumber and building materials market.
In April, Do It Best hired Eric Knox as the new director of LBM Sales. Prior to joining Do It Best, Knox was employed as director of sales and marketing for TekPoint International Corp. and as regional sales manager, Asia, for Ace Hardware.
On March 4, Do It Best merged with Maple Grove, Minnesota-based United Hardware Distributing Co., a wholesale hardware distributor. United Hardware operates a distribution center in Milbank, South Dakota, and has an extensive product line with more than 700 stores in the Midwest.
