I hate to admit it, but I love Whole Foods. It’s part of my weekend routine. When the kids are napping (or resting) on Sunday afternoons, I download CNN’s “State of Union,” put on my headphones and walk into Whole Foods. My first stop is the grocery store’s bar, where I choose a beer from one of the 20-some taps. Then I navigate the store, sipping my beer, munching samples and loading my cart with overpriced items as I listen to Jake Tapper grill his guests.

I love the routine, which is all about the experience—the bar, the samples, the beautiful displays. That experience is what makes shopping at Whole Foods so much more enjoyable to shop at than the competition (at least until I see my bill when I check out).

I don’t love shopping on Amazon. It’s fine. I view it as a utility.
