Some retailers launched online deals well in advance of Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

It’s Thanksgiving, and the holiday shopping season officially has landed, though many online retailers started heavy holiday messaging and promotions days or weeks ago.

Several large retail chains planned to open their stores Thanksgiving evening: Wal-Mart Stores Inc., No. 3 in the Internet Retailer 2015 Top 500 Guide, Sears Holdings Corp. (No. 5), Macy’s Inc. (No. 7), Best Buy Co. (No. 14), Target Corp. (No. 16) and Toys ‘R’ Us Inc. (No. 40). The National Retail Foundation’s Preliminary Thanksgiving Weekend Survey found an estimated 135.8 million shoppers (58.7%) definitely will or may shop on Thanksgiving and over Thanksgiving weekend, down a bit from the 61.1% who planned to last year.
