(Bloomberg) — AmEx is making it easier to leave home without it.

American Express Co. unveiled an online checkout system Thursday that lets customers use their account passwords to order clothes, flowers and concert tickets from a roster of retailers. Shoppers don’t need their cards: It automatically fills in payment information all the way down to the billing address so they can click “complete order” faster.

The biggest credit-card issuer by purchases is following MasterCard Inc. and Visa Inc. in offering a so-called online wallet. AmEx wants its service to be even easier, letting cardholders use existing account logins while giving retailers more of the shoppers’ information to streamline sales, according to Leslie Berland, who oversees the firm’s digital partnerships.

“We have heard very clearly from consumers and merchants that they are looking for something better,” she said in an interview.

Merchants on the system include Burberry Group Plc, 1-800- Flowers, Hulu and Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. It works only with cards issued by AmEx. The New York-based lender partnered with online payment processor Stripe Inc. to help more stores integrate the technology into their websites, Berland said. Akin to systems like Apple Pay, it uses tokens to digitally scramble a cardholder’s ID to prevent fraud.
