Companies can get quotes and book airfreight transport with a new B2B booking tool

Kuehne + Nagel, a vendor of freight transport services operating globally, has launched its first online booking tool that will let businesses quickly get quotes and book cargo space on airplanes. In launching the application, called KN FreightNet, the company says it is recognizing the “ever-increasing trend towards the use of e-commerce solutions in industry(B2B leaps onto the web http://www.internetretailer.com/2013/11/04/b2b-leaps-web).”

The application, which freight bookers can find on Kuehne + Nagel’s home page, asks users to enter shipment details, such as origin, destination and size. The application then shows the prices for the vendor’s various shipping services and estimated transit times. A user can book immediately(connecting faster in B2B http://www.internetretailer.com/2014/05/13/new-ibm-b2b-software-connecting-faster-suppliers) or hold a reservation for 14 days, the company says.

Previously, the company handled the booking process largely by telephone and e-mail.

“We are proud to be a first-mover in our industry and we are committed to making processes as easy as possible for our customers,” says Tim Scharwath, executive vice president of air logistics at Kuehne + Nagel.

The web site feature also saves previous shipment information so users can re-book shipments without having to re-enter all their data.

“Booking and tracking our shipments now only takes a few clicks,” says Risto Scherer, shipping coordinator for Music Distribution Services GmbH and an early user of the online booking tool.

The application will roll out to users globally by the end of the year. Kuehne + Nagel says it is also working to extend its capabilities to include quoting and booking for sea freight and road transport.
