Craig Hayman is the new president of eBay Enterprise. At IBM he oversaw the introduction of on-demand software for online retailers.

EBay Inc. announced today it has hired Craig Hayman as president of its eBay Enterprise business, the online marketplace’s e-commerce technology arm. Hayman has experience at IBM’s Industry Cloud Solutions and WebSphere businesses.

“We are fortunate to have Craig join our leadership team and lead our Enterprise business unit,” eBay founder and CEO John Donahoe says. “Technology continues to have a significant impact on the overall commerce landscape. Craig’s experience will enhance our ability to serve retailers and brands in this online to offine world.”

Hayman spent 15 years at IBM in various leadership roles. He led the company’s campaign to become a provider of software-as-a-service, which means clients subscribe to the software and access it via the web rather than installing it in their one data centers. IBM introduced its Commerce on Cloud SaaS option in May 2012 to complement the licensed IBM Websphere software used by such big online retailers as Staples Inc., No. 3 in the 2014 Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, Sears Holdings Corp., No. 5, Liberty Interactive Corp., No. 6 and Office Depot Inc., No. 9. Hayman also oversaw IBM’s acquisitions of more than a dozen companies in e-commerce and online marketing.

“I am delighted to join eBay Enterprise during this transformative time in its history and see tremendous opportunity for the organization,” Hayman says. “A longtime customer of IBM, eBay Enterprise’s fulfillment centers, drop-ship and ship-from-store capabilities are unique in helping retailers better serve their customers. I am honored to be part of the team and join this purpose-driven company, which is enabling commerce on a global scale.”

E-retailers use eBay Enterprise, which includes the former GSI Commerce, for such services as order management, fulfillment, marketing, customer service, payment systems and content management. 23 of the Top 500 e-retailers in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide cite eBay Enterprise as their e-commerce platform provider; 34 use Magento, the open source e-commerce software eBay owns; and 44 use IBM. In the Second 500, eight use eBay Enterprise, 64 use Magento, and one uses IBM.
