Cindy Holland had been responsible for TV licensing for the e-retailer.

Netflix Inc. has a vice president of original content, a newly created position. Cindy Holland will oversee the acquisition and launch of original series for the entertainment provider.

She has worked at Netflix for a decade. Most recently, she managed the e-retailer’s TV licensing relationships in the United States. Earlier, she was in charge of DVD acquisition for Netflix. Previously, she worked at film production companies including Mutual Film Company and Baltimore/Spring Creek, and at Kozmo.com, a defunct e-commerce company.

Taking over Holland’s old job is Jason Ropell. Netflix hired him in March 2011 as vice president of content acquisition. Previously, he was vice president, business development at NBCUniversal Inc., another media and entertainment company.

“Cindy has worked closely on every aspect of our original series launches. Given how important originals are to our future success, we are thrilled to have her in this position,” says Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos. “We are also delighted to give Jason an important role in our biggest market.  As head of our Latin American and Canadian acquisition teams over the last year, he’s skillfully managed the growth of those businesses.”

Original productions from Netflix include “House of Cards,” a political thriller, and “Hemlock Grove,” a murder mystery.  Netflix is No. 9 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
