The center is the second such facility eBay plans to open this year.

EBay Inc. says it will open an office in New York City this fall where at least 200 employees will focus on data and technology program development.

The eBay Technology Center of Excellence in New York will be the second such center the online marketplace, payments and e-commerce technology company opens this year. EBay opened a similar center in Seattle in January. It already operates similar facilities in Austin, TX, Portland, OR, and Tel Aviv, Israel.

“This investment allows us to build a long-term presence in New York City and is the latest in our commitment to advancing technologists and technology in centers around the world,” an eBay spokesman writes in a blog post.  EBay provided no further details about the work planned for the New York City facility, and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The first employees in the New York space come from Hunch, a product recommendation engine platform provider that eBay acquired in November. Hunch co-founder Chris Dixon will lead the new office.
