Consumers now can use the app to share photos on Pinterest.

Kodak Gallery, an online photo services e-retailer, is making pinning images to Pinterest accounts easier for Android smartphone users. The web retailer, part of the Eastman Kodak Co., recently updated its Kodak Gallery Android app to enable image posting to Pinterest from within the app. And app users have taken to Pinterest quite quickly, the merchant says.

Pinterest, a social network with 12 million users, enables users to “Pin” videos and images—of a wedding gown or bicycle, for example—within the network. Pins are gathered on a user’s Board, which she can organize and share with friends. Consumers can follow other shoppers on the social network, which enables them to see each others’ Boards. This can help consumers discover brands and products.

Kodak Gallery added the Pinterest integration for a simple reason: Consumers want an easy way to share photos, says Trent Gruenwald Sr., Kodak Gallery product marketing manager for social and mobile products. “Pinterest is an increasingly popular way for people to share what they love with others,” Gruenwald says. “But those things aren’t just found on web sites. People want to post personal pictures, too, whether it’s a craft project, favorite recipe or a fashion find while they’re shopping.”

Pinterest is popular with Kodak Gallery app users. A survey of 246 app users in March found that 28% had joined Pinterest. Since adding Pinterest integration to the Android app, it has become the second-most popular method for sharing photos after e-mail, and is almost twice as popular as sharing on Facebook, Gruenwald says. Kodak Gallery has more than 75 million U.S. and Canadian customers.

Currently, Pinterest’s sole app is for the iPhone. Kodak Gallery’s iPhone app does not have Pinterest integration because Pinterest’s iPhone app already has an image-upload capability, Gruenwald says, making it less of a problem for iPhone users to share photos. However, Kodak Gallery intends to add Pinterest integration to its iPhone app, but does not yet have a firm date set.
