The movie service began streaming films to Brazilians today with more nations to come soon.

Netflix Inc. launched the Portuguese-language version of its digital movie subscription service in Brazil today. Netflix will debut digital streaming subscription plans and services to consumers in more than 43 Latin American and Caribbean countries in the coming week.

Netflix, No. 13 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide, will charge 14.99 Brazilian real (approximately $9.39) per month for a subscription in Brazil. Subscription rates in other Latin American and Caribbean countries are slightly less expensive, and consumers in some nations will be charged in U.S. dollars.

“We are excited to be bringing Netflix to Latin America and the Caribbean,” says Reed Hastings, Netflix co-founder and CEO. “People throughout the region are online in ever-greater numbers and they love movies and TV shows.

Tomorrow, Netflix will debut Spanish-language services to consumers in Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. In Argentina, Netflix will charge 39 pesos, or about $7.30, while in Uruguay and Paraguay, the price will be $7.99 per month.

On Thursday Netflix will launch in Chile at 3790 pesos (approximately $8.18) per month and in Bolivia at $7.99 per month. On Friday, the retailer will go live in the Andean region and charge 14,000 pesos (approximately $7.83) in Colombia, while in Venezuela, Peru and Ecuador the price will be $7.99.

On Monday, Netflix will launch in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. In Mexico, the monthly subscription price will be 99 pesos ($7.91), while in Central America and the Caribbean the price will be $7.99. In the Caribbean region, Netflix will be available in English and Spanish, the retailer says.

Netflix is charging Carribbean and some Latin American customers in American dollars because those shoppers are accustomed to paying in dollars for online services, the retailer says.

Netflix currently has more than 25 million subscribers in the U.S. and Canada.
