Wafaa Mamilli, chief digital technology officer, Roche
Mamilli will report to the group CEO Thomas Schinecker and become a member of the corporate executive committee. Based at Genentech in South San Francisco, she will take over responsibility for the company’s Informatics division. Alan Hippe, who previously headed the division, will remain as chief financial officer (CFO).
Roche is a Swiss multinational health care company with annual sales of CHF 60.5 billion ($66.9 billion). It also manufactures pharmaceuticals and diagnostics products, specializing in treatments for oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology, and diabetes management. Its pharmaceutical portfolio includes innovative medicines for cancer, autoimmune disorders, and rare diseases. Meanwhile, its diagnostics division develops in vitro tests, instruments, and digital health solutions used for early detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of diseases.
New Roche executive
Mamilli’s appointment reflects Roche’s increasing focus on digital transformation and artificial intelligence to strengthen its competitive position in the health care industry.
Roche also is expanding its ecommerce platform. It includes an online ordering system for diagnostics products and the Navify Marketplace, where customers can access digital products and services from Roche and third-party providers. Roche also uses marketing automation and data analytics to deliver personalized customer experience and optimize procurement through its supplier portal, myBuy GEP SMART.
Mamilli joins Roche from Zoetis, where she served as chief digital and technology officer and group president for China, Brazil, and Precision Animal Health. She previously spent over 20 years at Eli Lilly. There, she held several senior global roles, including global chief information officer for business units.
Schinecker says Mamilli has the expertise to drive Roche’s use of digital solutions and artificial intelligence across its business. Her appointment marks a strategic shift as Roche seeks to enhance its digital capabilities and improve customer engagement in a rapidly evolving health care market.
