With a new senior management team steeped in ecommerce technology experience and connections with technology deployment partners, BigCommerce has its sights set on a brighter future.

Travis Hess, CEO, BigCommerce
The digital commerce technology vendor for B2B and B2C companies yesterday said it appointed three veteran ecommerce industry executives “to invigorate key areas of its go-to-market strategy.”
“We are rapidly transforming how BigCommerce markets, sells and services our platform,” CEO Travis Hess says, adding, “We are invigorating our business with new and deeper ecommerce expertise.”
BigCommerce expands its technology partner experience
The announcement came three weeks after BigCommerce promoted Hess, who had joined the company in May from technology and management consulting firm Accenture, to replace long-time CEO Brent Bellm. Bellm had joined BigCommerce in 2015 and served as chairman and CEO.
Like Hess — who has extensive experience working with ecommerce technology agencies and vendors and, according to his LinkedIn profile, has served on rival Shopify’s global advisory partner board — his expanded team members bring broad backgrounds in helping companies deploy ecommerce platforms.
They will seek to build on the growth BigCommerce scored in this year’s second quarter, when revenue grew 8% year over year to $81.83 million as its net loss narrowed 41% to $11.25 million from $19.06 million.
BigCommerce eyes growth with enterprise clients
They’ll also continue the company’s strategy of expanding its market share with enterprise clients. BigCommerce said it had 5,961 enterprise accounts as of June 30, up 0.5% from a year earlier, as its annual recurring revenue from enterprise accounts increased 7.4% to $253.8 million.
Hess now oversees a management team that includes:
⦁ Doug Hollinger, senior vice president of go-to-market strategy, who will focus on “clarifying BigCommerce’s value proposition, positioning and messaging across B2B, B2C and SMB brands and retailers.” Hollinger joins BigCommerce from Accenture, where he led B2C commerce strategy, primarily focused on retail and CPG companies. He has also worked at ecommerce technology and services companies including LiveArea, PFSweb, SapientRazorfish and Amplifi Commerce.
⦁ John Huntington, senior vice president of global partnerships, who will lead BigCommerce’s strategy for growing business with the company’s partner network of B2B and B2C digital agencies and systems integrators. Huntington most recently worked at website technology and services provider Siteimprove, where he was senior vice president of global alliances and channels.
⦁ Ryan Means, senior vice president of global services, who will focus on “refining BigCommerce services and support functions to deliver against the go-to-market strategy across the B2C and B2B customer base.” Means joined BigCommerce from customer experience management firm Merkle, where he was senior vice president of technology.
BigCommerce says it serves “tens of thousands of B2C and B2B companies” across 150 countries, including such brands as Coldwater Creek, King Arthur Baking Co., MKM Building Supplies and United Aqua Group.
