Footwear brand Skechers USA Inc. is continuing its push to reach shoppers on the go.

Skechers, No. 521 in the Internet Retailer 2016 U.S. Top 1000, has a new app for both Apple and Android devices. The app incorporates mobile payment options such as Apple Pay and Android Pay to make it easier for shoppers to buy directly through the app.

“The Skechers mobile app was the natural next step to allow consumers to have a more convenient, informed, streamlined and quick shopping experience,” Skechers president Michael Greenberg says. “With this, we’re giving consumers a virtual retail store in their pocket.”

The app also is designed to help tie together Skechers’ 546 retail locations with its online store. It includes a tool that lets consumers scan a bar code on a shoebox in a store with their smartphones to locate and order a particular pair of shoes.

The new app is Skechers’ most recent move to appeal to mobile shoppers. Greenberg says the company replatformed its website last year to incorporate responsive design, a move aimed at making the site easier for mobile shoppers to browse and buy. A responsive format adapts the look of a website to the device the consumer is using.

Skechers’ online sales were flat last year, with the company doing an Internet Retailer-estimated $27.0 million in e-commerce, up slightly from $26.9 million in 2014. The company does not break out e-commerce in its quarterly earnings reports, instead including e-commerce under retail sales. For the first six months of 2016, Skechers reported retail sales of $452.4 million, up 18.7% from $381.0 million last year.
