John Douglas spent more than nine years with Burberry before joining Tory Burch.

High-end apparel retailer Tory Burch LLC is tapping a Burberry Ltd. veteran to lead its technology initiatives.

Tory Burch, No. 120 in the Internet Retailer 2016 Top 500 Guide, hired John Douglas as chief technology officer, a new position. Previously, chief information officer Mike Giresi oversaw technology. Giresi left Tory Burch in September 2015 to become chief information officer at cruise line Royal Caribbean Cruises.

Douglas spent more than nine years as chief technology officer at Burberry, No. 356 in the Top 500, before leaving in March 2015. Since May 2015, he has been chief information officer at upscale handbags and accessories manufacturer MCM Worldwide, which began selling online through its own e-commerce site in February 2015.

“As our company continues to focus on digital innovation, John’s vast experience and passion for driving results and creating transformative customer experiences will be invaluable,” says Tory Burch, co-CEO of her namesake brand.

According to Top500Guide.com, Tory Burch did an Internet Retailer-estimated $287.5 million in online sales in 2015, up 25% from $230 million in 2014. Tory Burch was ranked No. 17 among luxury websites in “Luxury on the Web,” a special report from Internet Retailer.
