Tango app users will be able to make purchases without leaving the Tango app.

TangoMe Inc. just integrated shopping into its app and was able to secure some marquee e-retail names for its foray into m-commerce

Tango, a mobile messaging service with more than 300 million users, just launched shopping on the Tango mobile app in the U.S. selling items from Wal-Mart Stores Inc., and from AliExpress, a global consumer retail marketplace owned by China’s massive Alibaba Group. On AliExpress, manufacturers and wholesalers based in China sell products directly to consumers outside of China, including in the U.S.

The new service allows U.S. Tango members to shop millions of products sold through Walmart.com and AliExpress. The company expects to expand the shopping feature over time to include additional retailers and countries.

Tango will offer personalized lists of products from Walmart.com and AliExpress based on what it knows about each Tango user, Tango says. Tango members will be able to make purchases from Walmart.com and AliExpress without leaving the app.

“Tango offers an exciting new way for consumers to access quality products on AliExpress that are relevant to their preferences and lifestyles.” says Leo Shen, general manager of AliExpress. “We look forward to teaming up with Tango to provide consumers a great shopping experience wherever they go.”

Walmart.com is No. 6 in the Internet Retailer Mobile 500. For its 2015 fiscal year ended Jan. 31 Walmart.com grew web sales 22% year over year. The web accounted for 2.5% of sales compared with 2.1% in fiscal 2014. It did not break out dollars, but the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide estimates Walmart.com’s global online sales at $12.136 billion in 2014. Walmart.com is No. 3 in the 2015 Internet Retailer Top 500.

The U.S. ranks as the top country in terms of traffic to AliExpress, accounting for 10.68% of traffic according to Similarweb, a web analytics company. Russia ranks second, capturing 9.91%.

The Tango app adds shopping to a robust list of functionality available in its app including instant messaging, games, music and videos.

Tango CEO and co-founder Uri Raz calls the Tango’s new venture ‘conversational commerce’ because it enables app users to shop via the same app they use to chat with friends and family.
