Tracey Weber also worked at Barnes & Noble and Travelocity.com.

Gilt Groupe Inc., No. 54 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, has hired web banking executive and former Barnes & Noble Inc. vice president Tracey Weber as chief operating officer.

Her responsibilities include Gilt City, which sells discounted tickets and services in several major cities, along with customer service, merchandise planning and other areas, including what the e-retailer calls “several new strategic initiatives.” She reports to CEO Michelle Peluso, who took over as chief executive late last year.

Gilt hired Weber from Citibank, where she worked as the financial institution’s managing director of Internet and mobile. Gilt derives 40% of its revenue from mobile shoppers and stands as No. 13 in the Internet Retailer Mobile 400. While at Citibank, she launched its iPad presence, Gilt says.

Citibank hired Weber in 2010, according to her LinkedIn profile. Before that, she was executive vice president, textbooks and digital education, for Barnes & Noble. BarnesandNoble.com Inc. is No. 27 in the new Internet Retailer Top 500. She also worked various jobs for online travel services provider Travelocity, most recently as president, North America.

Weber’s new job reunites her with her new boss.

“Tracey and I have worked together in different capacities for over 15 years, including when we were co-founders of the travel site, Site.com,” Peluso says. “She’s an exceptional leader of people, and she brings to Gilt tremendous e-commerce experience at a global scale.  As we accelerate growth in revenue and profitability, Tracey will be an invaluable contributor in helping us achieve this.”
