Retailers can use it to share store news and monitor customer check-ins.

Social check-in service Foursquare has launched a new app that lets business owners and managers use their own smartphones to update their store information and monitor customer activity. The Foursquare for Business app is available for both Apple Inc. and Android devices.

Merchants can use the app to post updates—such as announcing the arrival of a new clothing collection or the start of a sale—to Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter simultaneously, Foursquare says. They can also turn on special offers, post photos and view customer data, including recent check-ins, number of likes the business has on Foursquare and most frequent customers. Businesses must register their stores’ geo-locations on Foursquare before they can use the app, which is free, the company says.

Foursquare for Business presently is rated roughly 4.5 out of 5 stars in both the Apple App Store and the Android Google Play app store. “Used to have to use the web site to make updates. Not anymore,” writes one user on Google Play who gave the app 4 out of 5 stars.

More than one million businesses use Foursquare to share special offers and store information with about 30 million consumers who check in worldwide, the company says.
