The Du Pont facility will cover 1 million square feet and open late next year.

Amazon.com Inc. plans to open a 1 million-square-foot warehouse in Du Pont, WA, in fall 2013. Amazon, No. 1 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, says it expects to spend at least $100 million on the distribution center, and hire hundreds of full-time workers there.

“We are excited to increase our presence in the state of Washington with this new fulfillment center,” says Dave Clark, vice president of Amazon global customer fulfillment. “We appreciate the state and local leaders who have helped us make this site in DuPont a reality.”

Amazon has hired Duke Realty, a commercial real estate developer based in Indiana, to build the warehouse.

Amazon has said it employs some 20,000 full-time fulfillment workers in 40 U.S. warehouses.  Company officials said in July they planned to open an additional 18 fulfillment centers worldwide this year.
