New features include an immunization scheduler and a pill identifier.

CVS Caremark Corp. is beefing up its mobile commerce site and smartphone app to help customers better manage their health.

The new enhancements to the CVS mobile site include an immunization scheduler. While appointments are not necessary, shoppers who prefer to plan ahead can now schedule immunizations on the CVS mobile site. Shoppers enter a location and the patient’s date of birth, select the desired immunization, and schedule an appointment.

CVS has added more health resources to the mobile site, as well. Shoppers using the site can view prescriptions available for refill or pick-up, access the Health Information Center, and manage their ExtraCare savings and rewards. Mobile shoppers can now also sign up for the ExtraCare Advantage for Diabetes opt-in program through the mobile site to receive exclusive savings on diabetes care products as well as healthy living tips and recipes.

And the retailer, No. 100 in the Internet Retailer Mobile 400, has added electronic gift cards to the mobile site. Customers can now buy personalized eGift Cards on the site; cards are delivered to the recipient via e-mail and can be used at CVS/pharmacy locations across the country.

In the mobile app, CVS has included a new pill identifier. Customers can use the tool to check for drug interactions and identify pills by shape, color and imprint. This enhancement accompanies recent additions to the CVS mobile app including the Scan Your Refill feature, which allows users to scan their prescription bar codes to quickly refill their prescriptions.

CVS also has redesigned the mobile app, giving it a new look. The sleeker design, CVS says, includes an easy-to-navigate home screen, large icons and an intuitive interface.

“Through our latest mobile enhancements, CVS/pharmacy is augmenting the personalized shopping and health care experience for our customers,” says Rob Price, senior vice president and chief marketing officer. “Customers accessing CVS.com via mobile devices and tablets has more than doubled since the beginning of the year. We are committed to broadly expanding digital access for customers in order to maximize pharmacy service and shopping convenience.”

Both the CVS mobile site and app enable customers to shop the full CVS.com product catalog. Shoppers can use both the site and app to access Deal of the Day flash sales featuring a new deal every day online and in-store on popular household essentials and gifts.
