Alibaba Group continues to introduce new artificial intelligence (AI) tools designed to support U.S. small business sellers on its global marketplace platform.
The latest addition, Pic Copilot, is an AI ecommerce design tool tailored specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). This tool aims to reduce photography and design costs while driving higher sales for American SMEs.
Pic Copilot offers 12 AI tools that simplify tasks such as swapping image backgrounds, enhancing photos and videos, enabling virtual try-ons, and generating ad visuals.
The tool’s development reflects insights from its initial rollouts, which revealed that SMEs and key opinion leaders (KOLs) prioritize visuals that boost sales over purely aesthetic designs. Built on 250 million parameters and incorporating a sales-driven data annotation method, the latest version analyzes how image backgrounds influence click-through rates across 240 product categories.

Pic Copilot also features virtual try-ons customized for multiple skin tones and body types, with over 160 model options across four major skin tones. Users can upload personal images to create try-on visuals.
Additionally, the platform offers U.S.-specific graphic templates for holidays like Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and St. Patrick’s Day.
During a Black Friday trial, over 35,000 users globally utilized Pic Copilot to produce marketing content, with generated materials used over 200,000 times. This saved users an average of $200 each, while the virtual try-on feature helped more than 10,000 merchants create more than 80,000 model images, Alibaba says.
With tools like Pic Copilot, Alibaba continues to empower SMEs with innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and boost sales performance.
In addition to Alibaba.com, Taobao and Tmall, the Alibaba E-Commerce Business Group includes:
- The international retail sites AliExpress.com, Lazada, Trendyol and Daraz.
- 1688, a wholesale marketplace with international suppliers for the China domestic market.
- Idle Fish, an online trading platform for second-hand goods.
Taobao ranks No. 1 in the Global Online Marketplaces Database, Digital Commerce 360’s ranking of the largest such marketplaces by GMV. Tmall ranks No. 2.
