BeddingStyle.com is waking up to increased mobile sales.

The e-retailer of bedroom decor updated its mobile site’s search results and is enjoying a nice bump in mobile revenue.

BeddingStyle.com’s smartphone revenue increased 28% during the two weeks after it implemented a new search algorithm compared to the two weeks before it had this new feature.

Instead of simply showing the most relevant search results, the new site search algorithm factors into the results page how many views a product has, how many times a consumer has added a product to her cart and also each product’s view-to-purchase ratio, says Peter Roman, who leads e-commerce for BeddingStyle.com. BeddingStyle.com, which already had this search algorithm live on its desktop site, decided this spring to add the feature to its dedicated mobile site.

Besides smartphone revenue, BeddingStyle also experienced a 9% increase in the mobile average order volume and a 24% increase in page views per mobile visit when comparing the two weeks after the search results upgrade to the two weeks before.

BeddingStyle also made other changes to its mobile site, including enlarging images, which helped increase its mobile sales and conversion metrics, Roman says. While the e-retailer implemented the search upgrade in the spring, BeddingStyle continues to see growth in mobile sales, Roman says.

“Mobile traffic and revenue is increasing every quarter,” Roman says. “We are constantly working to enhance and refine the mobile experience we provide, based on the specific and unique purchasing behaviors we see occurring on the mobile site.”

BeddingStyle.com uses mobile platform vendor Unbound Commerce for to maintain its mobile site, and the retailer hired navigation technology vendor SearchSpring to integrate the new search feature. The two vendors worked on the integration together and it only took a few days, Roman says. He would not say how much the retailer invested in the new feature.
