Jon Nordeen worked at Kohl’s Corp. from 2001 to 2011.

Department store chain Hudson’s Bay Company announced today it has hired Jon Nordeen as its new chief information officer. He replaces Dan Smith, who will remain with the company as an information technology consultant, according to a company spokeswoman. Hudson’s Bay ranks No. 130 in Internet Retailer’s Top 500 Guide.

Nordeen worked at Kohl’s Corp., No 23 in the Top 500, from 2001 to 2011, last serving as executive vice president and chief information officer. He has been a consultant since leaving Kohl’s, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before Kohl’s, he served as chief information officer at catalog and web retailer Spiegel Group.

Nordeen’s hiring comes at a pivotal time in Hudson Bay’s e-commerce history. The retailer, which also owns such major retail brands as Saks Direct, No. 38 in the Internet Retailer Top 500, and Lord & Taylor grew web sales an estimated 511% over the past five years, from an Internet Retailer-estimated $35 million in 2009 to $214 million in 2013. The acquisition of Saks Direct last year is expected to boost that number significantly, with Saks generating an estimated $1.08 billion in web sales last year.

The company reported in Q2 2014 that online sales for Hudson’s Bay and Lord & Taylor combined were up 82.2% from the same time last year to $46 million. With the $116 million in revenue from newly acquired Saks’ digital properties factored in, the company as a whole booked $162 million in e-commerce sales for the quarter. In April, Hudson Bay announced a planned $36.2 million investment in its digital properties in 2014.

“With our focus on growth and innovation, Jon’s business experience and understanding of emerging technology in the retail sector will be instrumental as we continue to execute our corporate strategy,” Hudson’s Bay CEO Richard Baker said in a statement.
