The equipment retailer will celebrate the site launch with discounts for Facebook fans.

Power Equipment Direct Inc. has pulled the plug on its corporate web site, replacing it with an e-commerce site that consolidates nine product-specific web sites.

Until Wednesday, the power equipment retailer had individual web sites for its nine product lines: air compressors, chain saws, electric generators, lawn mowers, log splitters, pressure washers, snowblowers, sump pumps and water pumps.

The individual e-commerce sites, operating under names such as AirCompressorsDirect.com and ChainSawsDirect.com, won’t go away, but now consumers also can shop the company’s full line of products on one site with one shopping cart and one account. The consolidated web site was developed in-house.

“The new Power Equipment Direct web store is eight years in the making,” says Jon Hoch, founder and CEO of Power Equipment Direct, No. 250 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide. “We basically combined our entire operation into a single, consolidated store.”

To celebrate the launch, Power Equipment Direct will host a grand opening sale exclusively for their Facebook fans, starting Oct. 26. The 48-hour sale will only be available at PowerEquipmentDirect.com. A special link to the exclusive sale will be posted at Facebook.com/PowerEquipmentDirect.

The privately held Power Equipment Direct reported in mid-September that it had exceeded prior year sales. The company had web sales last year of $49.7 million, up 71.4% from $29.0 million in 2009. That marked the second consecutive year that Power Equipment Direct exceeded prior-year sales by September.
