The pizza chain offers free unlimited delivery to consumers who sign up for ShopRunner.

Domino’s Pizza today announced it has joined ShopRunner, an e-commerce shipping program that normally provides unlimited free two-day shipping for orders placed with member e-retailers. The pizza chain is the first restaurant to join.

ShopRunner members receive free pizza deliveries for orders placed at Dominos.com. When a hungry consumer get to the Domino’s checkout page he signs in with his ShopRunner user ID and password, and the site waives the $2.75 delivery charge. Unlike other e-retail purchases, however, consumers don’t have to wait two days for their pizza. Online pizza orders are routed through a nearby Domino’s restaurant and delivered by the chain’s pizza delivery workers.

ShopRunner members pay $79 for a year of deliveries for online orders placed with member merchants, which include PetSmart, Newegg, The Sports Authority and Toys ‘R’ Us. Mike Golden, ShopRunner president, says Domino’s adds value to the ShopRunner offering. “It’s symbolic and illustrates a game-changing approach and direction we are taking in building the best consumer experience, delivering access to a wider assortment of products and services for our members,” he says.

EBay Inc. announced Monday a deal to acquire ShopRunner owner GSI Commerce Inc. But eBay said it intends to divest 70% of the ShopRunner program as well as certain other GSI assets. GSI CEO Michael Rubin will run ShopRunner as part of a separate holding company. GSI launched ShopRunner last fall and the program now includes more than 70 e-retailers.
