Cindy Davis oversaw e-commerce during her job as a Sam’s Club executive.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has promoted one of its e-commerce executives to a global role. The multichannel retailer has appointed Cindy Davis as executive vice president of global consumer insights. She will lead the new Global Customer Insights Team, and help both Wal-Mart and its Sam’s Club wholesale division analyze broad consumer trends and find insights into the needs of consumers located around the world.

Davis continues to report to Sam’s Club CEO Brian Cornell. Davis has worked for Sam’s Club since 2007, starting as senior vice president of membership and marketing before becoming, in August 2008, executive vice president. She also was given responsibilities overseeing e-commerce.  The retailer did not specify how much Davis would be involved in e-commerce in her new job.

“Cindy is uniquely suited to lead the development of our new world-class Global Customer Insights team for Wal-Mart,” Cornell says. “She has demonstrated an ability to build teams and capabilities that deliver business performance today while preparing us to capitalize on our business potential for the future.”

Wal-Mart’s Walmart.com is No. 6 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide.
