Sona Chawla was hired in 2008 as senior vice president of e-commerce.

Walgreen Co. has promoted Sona Chawla to president of e-commmerce from senior vice president of e-commerce, the retailer said today.

Walgreens, No. 68 in the Internet Retailer Top 500 Guide, hired Chawla in 2008. She came from computer maker Dell Inc., where she was vice president of global online business. Dell is No. 3 in the Top 500 Guide.

“Under Sona’s visionary leadership, we have made extraordinary progress in our online, mobile and e-commerce capabilities,” says CEO Greg Wasson said. “We have created an online presence to match our brick-and-mortar reach, and we are truly innovating with services like our Pharmacy Chat.” That service uses text chat to puts pharmacy customers in touch with pharmacists around the clock.

Chawla is a keynote speaker at the upcoming Internet Retailer Conference & Exhibition 2011 coming up June 14-17 in San Diego.

Walgreens today also said it had hired Graham  Atkinson as senior vice president and chief customer experience officer. He will oversee the development of the company’s loyalty strategies. He comes from United Airlines, where he was president of the airline’s Mileage Plus loyalty program.
