Top 1000 Methodology

Based on activity tracked in the Top 1000 Database, this report covers merchants that were collectively responsible for $1.141 trillion in online sales in 2024. It also spotlights the growth stories behind the fastest-rising companies in each category.

The 14 merchandise categories also include Mass Merchants, such as Amazon, Walmart, Target and Costco, which sell across multiple categories. That category alone, which is made up of 52 retailers, accounted for $635.71 billion in ecommerce sales for the year.

By merchant type, Web-Only Retailers led online sales, doing $560.96 billion in business in 2024.
