The federal government is streamlining its procurement process with the new Procurement Co-Pilot, an online tool developed by the General Services Administration (GSA) in partnership with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). This initiative aims to make the procurement of goods and services — a market where annual spending approaches $800 billion — more transparent and efficient across federal agencies.
The Procurement Co-Pilot provides federal employees and acquisition professionals with tools to access comprehensive government-wide purchasing data, enhancing the transparency and efficiency of spending decisions. Key features of the platform include:
- Real-time data access: Users can access up-to-date pricing data for related products purchased by other agencies, facilitating informed decision-making and cost efficiency.
- Vendor diversity: The platform offers access to a broad, government-approved vendor pool, categorized by various vendor types and sizes, ensuring diverse supplier representation.
- Optimal contract vehicle identification: Based on specific needs, such as price and performance, users can determine the best contract options suited to their agency’s goals.
- High-definition data insights: Leveraging OMB’s “Hi-Def” acquisition data strategy, the tool provides agencies with a clearer view of purchasing patterns across the government, enhancing data-driven decision-making.
- Advanced analytics and recommendations: Tailored procurement strategies are supported by data analytics, which guide users through price data, vendor selection, and contract comparisons.
The Procurement Co-Pilot addresses the need for newer, more user-friendly data tools to manage the vast and complex acquisition data from 24 agencies, 170 contract writing systems, and 15 payment systems. Its three main applications enable price research, providing government-wide data on over 1 million products.
According to the GSA, this tool will help acquisition professionals gain a detailed view of what other agencies have paid, facilitating better resource management, and maximizing procurement efficiency across the federal government.
