Sellers of used goods grew web sales 8.0% in 2023, beating out the 6.9% growth of the Digital Commerce 360 Top 1000 as a whole.

Retailers offering secondhand goods as at least part of their selection make up 7.9% of the Top 1000, with high concentrations in consumer electronics and hobby goods sellers.

However, used goods are a growing trend across many sectors. Ikea is testing a used-goods marketplace, and retailers such as H&M, J. Crew and Kate Spade use ThredUp to resell used apparel. Many of the marketplaces in Digital Commerce 360’s Global Online Marketplaces Database focus on the sale of used goods.

Among Top 1000 retailers, consumer electronics retailers are most likely to offer secondhand goods, followed by toy and hobby goods retailers and jewelry sellers. For consumer electronics, many retailers offer to buy back used goods as part of upgrade programs, selling those that are still in good shape to buyers looking for a deal. For hobbyists and jewelry fans, collectors often look for secondhand goods that have appreciated in value.
