Manufacturers that own and operate their own industry marketplaces are undergoing a renaissance spurred by a shift in purchasing preferences by digital business buyers, according to data and analysis contained in the 2021 B2B Marketplace 250, a newly published research report from Digital Commerce 360.

A case in point is Siemens AG, the German developer of electrification, automation, and digitalization products and services for automation and control, power, transportation, and medical diagnosis.

In May, Siemens accelerated its digital strategy with an agreement to acquire Supplyframe, a leading and fast-growing marketplace for the global electronics value chain, for $700 million.
