The majority of the retailers have increased their digital marketing budgets since 2019, according to a Digital Commerce 360 survey of 105 retailers in June 2020. Plus, half of the retailers spend 50% or more of their marketing budget on customer acquisition.
Retailers named email as the most effective method for customer acquisition, followed by social media. Social media, while part of customer acquisition strategies, is used mostly for brand awareness. 82% of retailers advertise with Facebook; 60% advertise with Instagram.
