Merchants are moving to meet consumer demands of same- and next-day delivery. But only 17.5% of Top 1000 retailers analyzed by Internet Retailer offer free shipping on all orders, no strings attached, according to the Internet Retailer 2019 Click, Ship & Return Report, which takes a deep dive into the policies, costs and trends e-retailers are currently facing for fulfillment services. In this report, Internet Retailer critically analyzed 52 retailers on what it was like receiving and returning packages from them, revealing key data points from the amount of time it took to receive a package to any communication sent regarding expected delivery time. The report also includes insights into the shipping and return procedures of the Top 1000 retailers.

Of the merchants in Internet Retailer’s 2019 Top 1000, 65.4% offer free shipping on at least some orders. This includes those retailers offering free shipping under certain conditions, such as orders meeting a stated dollar threshold or free delivery for purchasing with a store credit card, as well as those offering free shipping for every order.
